Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) sits close to the city, with most international flights handled at the newer Terminal 3 and regional turboprops using the older buildings a short shuttle away. Operator desks inside arrivals will sell you a local prepaid line, but Tanzania registers SIMs biometrically, so the process involves documents, fingerprint capture and a queue that grows every time a Gulf carrier lands at dawn.

Being connected as you walk out is the difference between a smooth transfer and a long negotiation. Bolt and Uber both operate in Dar es Salaam and are the simplest way into Masaki, Oyster Bay or the city centre; the airport taxi desks are the alternative. Traffic on Nyerere and Morogoro roads makes live routing genuinely useful, and the DART bus corridor is easier to follow with a map on screen.

Congestion is real at rush hour along the DART corridor and around Kariakoo market, where dense crowds slow speeds even with full bars. Coverage follows the coast road south to Kigamboni and north towards Bagamoyo without much trouble. Head inland to Mikumi or Udzungwa and the signal becomes a highway-only affair, disappearing between towns and inside the park boundaries.

Hotel and café Wi-Fi around Masaki is decent but rarely reliable enough for a call you care about, so plan to hotspot from the phone if you are working. A power bank matters more here than in most cities: heat, air-conditioned car hopping and long traffic waits with the screen on will empty a battery by mid-afternoon.
