Togo is a narrow strip of a country and a surprising amount of its traffic is people connecting through it: Lomé's Gnassingbé Eyadéma International Airport (LFW) is a regional hub, and plenty of travellers pass through on the way somewhere else in West Africa. Others come for business in Lomé, for the coastal road, or for the long drive north through Kpalimé and Kara. Either way, buying a local SIM during a connection is not realistic, and even a full arrival means a registration errand.
