Best eSIM for Saint Martin

Saint Martin is the French half of an island shared with Dutch Sint Maarten, and that split shapes your phone bill more than anything else about the trip. Almost everyone arrives at Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) on the Dutch side, then drives north across an unmarked border to Marigot, Grand Case or Orient Bay. Phones do not respect the beach that they cross, and it is easy to sit in a restaurant on the French side while your handset holds on to a network on the other half. Sorting out a data plan before you travel, rather than in the arrivals hall, keeps that from turning into a surprise. Plans are data-only, so keep your usual SIM for verification codes.

On the French side, Orange Caraïbe and Digicel run the networks your eSIM will use, and coverage across the northern half is good — Marigot, Grand Case, Anse Marcel, Orient Bay and the road over the hills to the Dutch border are all well served. Dead spots are rare, but the boundary is the thing to watch: near Simpson Bay, Philipsburg or the airport your phone may lock on to a Sint Maarten network instead. If your plan covers only Saint Martin, set network selection manually on the Dutch side.

Because the island is shared, a local French-side SIM leaves you unconnected in Philipsburg and at the airport, and a Dutch-side SIM does the reverse — which is why so many visitors end up with two. Home-carrier roaming to the Caribbean is expensive on most tariffs. A travel eSIM is the tidier option, but check on the plan card above which of the two territories your plan lists before you buy.
